doesn't like music? Everyone does. Some people use music as a relaxing
therapy. Some people find peace when they listen to music and some just

Similarly, some love to play musical instruments like guitar and piano. But not many of the music lovers know about these unusual musical instruments.
These are not just weird and unusual but also uncommon musical
instruments because we don't get to see them often and neither do we
play them anymore.

1. Contrabass Balalaika
This
is the Russian folk musical instrument. It looks weird because it has a
triangular body and is played with hands or leather plectrums.
2. American Photoplayer
It was introduced in 1912 and was established by American Photoplayer company. It was used for providing sound in silent films.
3. Stylophone
It was introduced by Brian Jarvis. It is a synthesizer which is operated by the stylus.
4. Pikasso guitar
This weird instrument was designed by Manzer and it has 4 necks, 2 sound holes and 42 strings.
5. Theremin and Aetherphone
This
is an electronic musical device and it can be controlled without any
physical contact. It has two metal antennas that can detect the moments
of the thereminist's hand and will play accordingly.
6. Cimbalom
This
musical instrument is very much popular in Hungary. It is a concert
hammered dulcimer which has a large trapezoidal box with metal strings
that are stretched across the top of it.
7. Glass Harmonica
It
is also known as 'armonica,' 'bowl organ' and 'hydrocrystslaophone.' It
consists of the glass containers that produces sound through friction.
8. Crwth
Crwth is sometimes called as 'crowd' also. It is believed that this instrument was played in Wales since the 11th century.
9. Ondes Martenot
It
is also known as 'Martenot Waves.' It is an electronic instrument that
was discovered in 1928 by Maurice Martenot. It is known for its
eerie wavering notes.
10. Jew's Harp
Jew's
harp is a lamellophone that belongs to the group known as plucked
idiophones. It has a bamboo or metal tongue that is attached to the
frame. The tongue is placed then in the mouth and played with the finger
to produce a note.
11. Wheelharp
This
is a unique musical instrument that allows a single musician to sound
like an actual orchestra. It is a keyboard that controls 61 strings.
12. Hardingfele
This musical instrument is originated in Norway. It is like a violin and has twice as many strings as in any normal violin.
12. Singing ringing tree
Apart
from it being uncommon and unique, it is actually quite beautiful also.
It is designed by Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu. It is a musical instrument
which is made of steel pipes of different lengths.
14. Gameleste
Gameleste is a customized instrument which is specially made for Bjork. It is a combination of a gamelan and celesta.
14. Sharpsichord
It
is an eco-friendly musical instrument and works on solar energy. It has
a cylinder that has 11,520 holes and the musician plugs the pins. When
the cylinders start rotating then the pins pluck the strings and creates
the sound.
15. Holophoner
This
looks like a toy but is actually a unique instrument. It is a musical
instrument with a hologram projector in it. This was created by Harrison
Krix when he added 54 LED lights in it. Not many people are able to
play this Holophoner.
17. Hydraulophone
It
is a very interesting type of musical instrument as it is powered by
water. It works when the musician covers one or more water jets, forcing
the water through calibrated pipe.

This
was originally created by African slaves in Peru. It is a box which has
a hole on one side and the other side is made of thin plywood.
19. Lur
Lur is a wooden viking wind instrument and was introduced in medieval ages.
20. Friction Harp
It
gained popularity in the 1920s and it played when a pair of rosined
gloves are rubbed against it in order to create friction.
21. Branching Corrugahorn
It's
an experimental musical instrument. It is developed with the help of
flexible corrugated pipes that are normally found in the pulmonary care
ward of a hospital.
22. Nyckelharpa
Nyckelharpa
is a Swedish musical instrument and it is composed of 16 strings and 37
keys. It is considered as the oldest existing instrument today.
23. Zeusaphone
It
is said that no one can see music but Zeusaphone is the type of
instrument which contradicts this story. It produces music through tesla
coils and its named after the Greek God Zeus.
23. Pyrophone
This
musical instrument completely goes with the meaning of its name that is
fire sound. The music is produced by applying combustion to the pipes
through gasoline.
25. Didgeridoo
It was discovered by the aboriginal people of the Northern Australia.
People consider it as the oldest aerophone in the world, dating back
40,000 years or more.
